Protein supplementation is key for optimizing your muscle protein synthesis and building strength and size. And nowadays there are some great plant-based protein options. We tried dozens of them, and compiled our favorites here.
Getting enough protein in your diet is key to muscle protein synthesis – reducing recovery times and increasing muscle growth overall.
In general you should aim to get most of your daily protein intake from whole foods, but if you’re following a plant-based diet that can be difficult. Not to say that there aren’t vegan options that are protein-dense, but it can still be tough to hit your daily target intake.
Fortunately nowadays there are some great options available for 100% vegan, organic protein powder supplements that you can use to boost your daily dose.
These are typically sourced from hemp, peas, chia seeds, and even pumpkin, and the brands we’ve listed here offer a great blend of all 9 essential amino acids. They also have an impressive ration of protein to calories close to what you’d find in whey protein.
And what’s more, some even include adaptogen mushroom blends to help support your immune system and reduce stress.
You’ll find our top 3 favorite organic vegan protein supplements highlighted below, followed by a detailed breakdown of each product and why we support it.

- 1,000mg of functional mushrooms and 500mg adaptogens
- No artificial sweeteners or fillers
- Real vanilla for great taste
Serving Size: 1 scoop
Servings: 15
Price Per Serving: $2.32
If you’ve read our post on our favorite nootropic mushroom-infused coffee blends then you’ll know the brand Four Sigmatic. They’ve come out in the number one spot again in the list of our favorite organic vegan proteins.
This Four Sigmatic Plant-Based Protein with Superfoods blend is completely organic and vegan, containing 18 grams of high-quality and bioavailable protein per serving. They’ve derived this protein from five main sources (all organic): hemp, American pea, chia seeds, pumpkin, and coconut.
The powder contains no fillers, grains, gums, or other artificial flavors or sweeteners, and checks the boxes for gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan.
And unlike a lot of vegan/plant-based proteins, Four Sigmatic’s blend not only mixes well in just water, but also has a great taste that’s on par with the best whey protein blends out there. They sweeten the blend with real organic vanilla that tastes great.
While 18 grams of protein for the 190 calories in the serving is a bit lower than whey protein, it’s still one of the best ratios that we’ve found in an organic vegan option.
What’s more, the company decided to stick with their theme of augmenting products with adaptogen blends, including a dose of 7 different adaptogen mushrooms designed to support healthy immune function, aid in cognitive function, and help fight stress.
This includes ashwagandha, eleuthero, chaga, cordyceps, reishi, turkey tail, and lion’s mane.
All of that for a price that comes in at less than a cup of coffee per serving makes Four Sigmatic Organic Protein our number one favorite plant-based protein supplement of the year.

Laird Superfoods Renew Plant-Based Protein
- Organic blend of hemp and pumpkin protein
- Full profile of all 9 essential amino acids
- Functional mushrooms Chaga, Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, and Maitake
Serving Size: 1/3 cup
Servings: 12
Price Per Serving: $2.75
Laird Superfoods is another one of our favorite supplement brands, and this vegan protein came in at a very close second on our list.
Offering 19 grams of protein per serving derived from hemp, sacha inchi, and pumpkin, the blend is a great alternative to whey protein if you’re following a vegan diet. Similar to Four Sigmatic’s blend, the Laird Superfood plant protein also includes an adaptogen mushroom blend with organic chaga, lion’s mane, cordyceps, and maitake.
To be honest the only reason that Laird Superfood didn’t come out in the #1 spot on our list is that we find the Four Sigmatic blend to taste a bit better and have a slight edge on mixability (and the price per serving is slightly lower).
Other than that, Laird Superfood Renew Plant-Based Protein is a great option and definitely worth a try in your daily routine.

Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein Powder
- 15 grams of organic, cold-pressed hemp protein per serving
- High in Omega-3 fats and antioxidants
- Low price per serving
Serving Size: 4 Tbsp
Servings: 45
Price Per Serving: $0.49
Rounding out the list is a great option if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly vegan protein: Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein.
This entirely hemp-derived protein is cold processed to maintain nutrients and offers a sustainable source of amino acids, fatty acids, protein, and edestin. One serving provides 15 grams of raw organic protein and 6 grams of fiber.
The companies cold-processing method yields a clean protein that’s high in Omega-3’s and antioxidants without the use of dangerous chemicals that can leech into the product.
While Nutiva only derives their protein from one source (leading to a narrower amino acid profile) and doesn’t include any of the beneficial adaptogen blends as Four Sigmatic and Laird Superfoods, it’s price per serving comes in much lower and therefore makes it a great budget option.
