Most protein powders are filled with sweeteners and artificial ingredients – but not all. We’ve tried dozens of products to bring you the best all-natural, 100% grass-fed whey protein supplements that you can feel good about using.
There’s a strong argument to be made for the fact that you should get all of your daily protein intake from “natural” sources like meat, fish, eggs, etc.
And for the most part we agree with that.
Our team at Biohacker Breakdown does try to get most of our daily protein from conventional sources, but sometimes life gets in the way and that’s just not feasible. For convenience sake (especially if you have a high protein requirement because of exercise and muscle recovery goals) it’s great to have a protein supplement on hand that you can use and still feel good about.
Ideally, a protein supplement that’s still as “natural” as possible – not packed with fillers, artificial ingredients, soy, or sweeteners. We want to avoid ingredient lists like this (taken from one of the top selling proteins on Amazon by the way):
And that’s where grass-fed whey protein comes in. Up until fairly recently getting reputably-sourced whey protein from grass-fed cows was difficult and expensive, but nowadays it’s become much easier. There are brands which are readily available that offer a great protein source at reasonable prices.
We’d be comfortable taking all three of the brands described below, as each one comes from 100% grass fed cows not exposed to added GMO’s or antibiotics, and there are no fillers in the supplements themselves.
Plus, they all taste pretty good too.
Top 3 Best Grass-Fed Whey Protein Brands of 2021
#1. Levels Grass-Fed Whey Unflavored
- 25g of protein & 5.5g BCAA’s for every 130 calorie serving
- No added sugar or sweetener
- No GMO’s, soy, hormones, or antibiotics
- 100% grass fed cows
- Only two ingredients: protein and a natural emulsifier
Serving Size: 1 scoop
Price Per Serving: $0.83
Our #1 choice for our favorite grass-fed whey protein is a product that we actually use on a daily basis to make our post workout shake: Grass Fed Whey Protein (Unflavored) from Levels.
This protein is produced from 100% grass-fed cows which are fed no GMO’s, hormones, or antibiotics.
It offers 25 grams of high-quality protein per 130 calories serving which is one of the best protein-to-calorie ratios you’ll find in any supplement.
The blend mixes well with little to no taste, but what we especially love (as you can see in the image below) is that the company actually details out the naturally occurring branch chain amino acid levels as well.
Levels Grass Fed Whey contains a solid 5.5g of BCAA’s per serving.
What’s more, the product contains just two ingredients: the whey protein itself and a non-GMO sunflower lecithin as an emulsifier. Sunflower lecithin is completely natural and a great alternative to the more commonly used soybean lecithin. It works to make the protein more easily mixable and helps it suspend in the liquid so you’re not constantly shaking it.
They also conduct third-party testing to ensure no heavy metals are in the protein.
The company does offer flavored versions of the protein but we prefer to use the unflavored mix and then add in our own flavorings and sweeteners.
Our typical post-workout shake includes two scoops of Levels Grass-fed Whey, a half a cup of blueberries, half a cup of oats, and unsweetened almond milk. We’ll sometimes add in some honey for added sweetening and we also add in a satchet of Visbiome probiotic twice a week to support gut biome health.
#2. Raw Grass-Fed Whey
- 100% pure grass-fed whey
- Sourced from US sustainable farms
- Hormone and antibiotic free
- Processed at low temperatures without acids or bleach
Serving Size: 5 Tbsp
Price Per Serving: $0.76
Our second pick for our top grass-fed whey protein is this great blend from Raw Organic Whey. The company specializes in one thing only: producing high-quality grass fed whey protein sourced from US-based sustainable farms which use no GMO’s or added hormones.
The protein is processed from cows whos diets consists of a variety of wild grasses and clover – producing milk that’s rich in omega-3’s and CLA’s. The whey is processed at low temperatures without acid or bleach which provides a non-denatured whey protein with a very high protein to calorie ratio.
The company does not add any soy products, fillers, or sweeteners. In fact there is only one ingredient on the label: whey protein isolate.
Since Raw doesn’t include an emulsifier like the sunflower lecithin in Levels mix, it can be a little hard to mix and is prone to clump up. Despite that though it’s still a great option for a grass-fed whey protein supplement that you can feel good about.
#3. Naked Whey Grass-Fed Unflavored
- 100% grass fed whey
- No added GMO’s, hormones, or antibiotics
- From open pasture dairy farms in northern California
- Detailed amino acid profile
Serving Size: 2 scoops
Price Per Serving: $1.13
The unflavored grass-fed whey mix from NAKED is another great option for a natural protein source.
Like Raw, the blend includes just one ingredient: whey protein. They source their ingredients from small dairy farms in northern California and add no fillers or sweeteners to the mix.
The whey is cold processed to ensure zero contamination from chemical detergents (no acids or bleach), synthetic additives, or heavy metals.
They also detail out the amino acid profile which we love. Honestly the only reason that this isn’t our #1 choice is because it’s a considerably higher price per serving than Levels (36% more to be exact) while offering essentially the same thing.
Still though, a great option for a 100% grass-fed whey protein with no added sweeteners or fillers.
BOTTLED FLOW-STATE – The Top 3 Best Nootropic Supplements And Our Guide To Using Them
Probably no other type of supplement elicits as much interest (or argument) from the biohacker community as nootropics. The problem? Most of the nootropics on the market today are little more than caffeine pills masked with flashy marketing. Lucky for you we’ve compiled our top 3 favorite over-the-counter nootropic supplements here, along with our guide to using them effectively.

Stanford neurobiologist Andrew Huberman recently appeared on JRE and other podcasts where he discussed supplements that have a clinically proven effect on testosterone. On top of that, we’ve also included a few bonus tricks from Tim Ferriss’s 4-Hour Body chapter on testosterone boosting. Enjoy.
